Blow Me*

no .... just kidding.... so, seriously now.....

this one sounds a bit like the Rays v. Red Sox series to me.... the rays are playing one mean game and the sox are there, but.... welll.... they just don't have a lot to say now do they.....

sorry i don't know if he was pussy-footing on purpose but warren haynes is like, battling with jeff chimeti for crissakes here..... i mean him and phil and bobby aren't really interacting too much...

what was bobby playing, guitar wise, anyone?

anyway, WH is not really playing lead guitar anywhere in this show -- i think he is not a good fit other than probably being a nice, friendly guy to have play at your gig. i saw him play with allen woody and a drummer at a very small club in Northampton MA in like 93 or 94 and they just about scared the shit out of me from the first notes they played!!!! just AGGRESSIVELY over the top loud, menacing blues numbers, one after a number -- it was relentless and intense.

is he playing at this show? jesus christ.... i mean, i ACTUALLY THINK the GD rhythm boys COULD accommodate a big personality. BOTTOM LINE i just don't think WH has shown any facility with the somewhat spacey, jazz-bent and off the cuff rapport that is needed to lay down a jam with PHIL, BILLY and BOBBY....

BTW, notice how PHIL plays LEAD on the help intro -- a logical expansion of his usual part, to fill in the gap left by not really having a LEAD instrumentalist throughout this entire show....

OH WELL! i think Bobby, Billy and Phil sound absolutely KING for a bunch of old motherfuckers! they keep up a great energy throughout all of WH's pedestrian guitar efforts -- JERRY was an overweight old junky, but he was a fucking magician genius of a guitar player that oozed personality and passion with every note.... listen at around 6:30 on throwing stones as WH just falls off the table.... and really can't hang in with PHIL AND BILLY.... oh hell, maybe he was inebriated -- it's really hard to play drunk.... not that he was... i'm just thinking up a reason for the tameness of his efforts....
